As the thriving of internet culture, cheesy pick-up lines have been created in recent years, and have been listed in top 10 internet terms in 2018. They have been applied widely among young people, especially on the web. They are now becoming more frequently used in real life. Based on the discovery that there are plenty of similar expressions in English, an analysis is proposed to contrast this kind of expression between two languages, English and Chinese.

This paper analyses differences and similarities of cheesy pick-up lines in Chinese and in English, based on the analysis of several linguistic theories concerning theories in sociolinguistics. Through illustration, this paper aims to explore formation of this kind of pop culture as well as reasons of its production in different cultural background, and simply analyses its effect .
