面膜是护肤品中的加强型功效产品，有效成分含量通常比日常护肤品要高，敷在脸上用于例如补水、保湿、美白、抗皱纹、平衡油脂等等功能。
面膜的原理，就是利用覆盖在脸部的时间，暂时隔离外界空气的污染，提高肌肤温度和皮肤的毛孔扩张，促进汗腺分泌与新陈代谢，使肌肤中的含氧量上升，有利于皮肤排除表皮细胞新陈代谢的产物和积累的油脂类物质，面膜中的水分渗入皮肤的角质层，皮肤变得柔软，肌肤自然透亮有弹性。
保湿剂是一类具有保湿和修复皮脂膜功能的化妆品原料，这类原料具有特殊分子结构，可以吸附并保留水分，在维持皮肤水合作用的同时维护皮肤屏障功能。
