As Dewey’s student, Tao Xingzhi was influenced by Dewey, educationist of America, on the education thought. They shared many similarities. However, Tao Xingzhi transformed Dewey’s theory “Education is life” into “Life is education” according to the reality of China. The differences between two theories could be compared from background, philosophical basis, main content, influences, practice and so on. Dewey and Tao Xingzhi were both well-known educationists with insightful theories. By comparing the similarities and differences will be beneficial for the contemporary education in China.
