The Lagoon is a short story written by Joseph Conrad. It is thought to be another master piece which concentrates on analysis of humanities besides of Heart of Darkness. In this paper, the reason why Arsat chose to betray his brother and saved his lover choice will be interpreted from the perspective of literary ethical criticism. The paper will be divided into four parts: part1: brief introduction of Joseph Conrad and the plot of The Lagoon; part2: interpretation of the reason why Arsat made the choice from ethical perspective; part3: punishment resulted from the choice; part4: conclusion.
