Chinese universities’ mottos,therefore, are also full of cultural connotations. When translating Chineseversion of mottos into English, connotations require extra attention. Thispaper analyses some Chinese university mottos, attempting to fathom out thetranslation skills used to convey thecultural connotations of the university. Ultimately, this paper makes a summaryand grasps the regularity in English translation of Chinese university mottos.

1. Collect a number of Chinese university mottos and referencesvia Internet and arrange them.

2. Try to analyze these mottos independently, combining their Englishversions with Chinese versions, and then consult the collected relevantmaterials.

3. Generalize the gained information and make a professionalexposition of the study.
