Conflicting conversation is aubiquitous and unavoidable phenomenon in daily communication process. In marriage,both husband and wife often meet with all kinds of trivial things in life, andsometimes even face major contradictions that shake the foundation of marriagesuch as cheating. Therefore, the conflict dialogue in marriage is extremelyfrequent and typical. At the same time, in this process, one of the two sidesmust take the predominant place and directly determines where the conflict talkgoes.

WhyWomen Kill is a worldwide popular blackAmerican comedy released in 2019 and produced by Aarc Cherry. It tells thestory of how three women who lived in the 1960s, 1980s and 2019 dealt withinfidelity in marriage.

In the 1980s, Swiss linguist JefVerschueren founded the Adaptation Theory in Pragmatics, pointing out thatlanguage features as selectivity, variability, negotiability and adaptability.Based on this theory, the paper will take the conflicting conversations in thethree marriages in the movie Why WomenKill, as the corpus to make a comparative analysis of the power changes ofAmerican women in the conflicting conversations within the marriages, furthermeasuring which power pattern in marriage is more conducive to the resolutionof the conflicting conversations.
